  • Bluff Point State Park

Come explore one of the best stretches of coastline that Connecticut has to offer. Bluff Point State Park is the last remaining significant piece of undeveloped land along the Connecticut coastline. Jutting out into waters of Long Island Sound this wooded peninsula, measuring one and one-half miles long by one mile wide, encompasses over 800 acres. This is a great place to paddle that offers sheltered coves, open water, high wooded vistas, diverse wildlife and a rich and flourishing ecology. Bluff Point was designated a Coastal Reserve by a special act of the Connecticut legislature in 1975 to establish the area for the purpose of preserving its native ecological associations, unique faunal and floral characteristics, geological features and scenic qualities in a condition of undisturbed integrity. This paddle meets at the boat launch and paddles south along the picturesque Poguonnock River toward the back side of Bushy Point Beach. This paddle offers a diverse coastline, high wooded vistas, abundant wildlife viewing, and a great saltwater estuary as we wind our way back to the put in. Why not round out a great day with a walk around the parks extensive trail network, offering great views from its high bluffs. Come out and enjoy this gem of a park, and see why so many are working so hard to preserve it!
